How to Work with Your Photographer and Videographer to Get the Best Shots

Your wedding day is one of the most important events of your life, and capturing those precious moments through photography and videography is key to preserving the memories for years to come. To ensure you get the best possible shots, it’s essential to work seamlessly with your photographer and videographer. At Twelve One & Co., we believe that a great partnership with our couples makes all the difference in the quality of their wedding photos and videos. Here’s how you can work with your photographer and videographer to get the best shots:

1. Communicate Your Vision

CAM20242 Videography and PhotographyBefore your wedding day, it’s important to sit down with your photographer and videographer and communicate your vision for the day. What type of photos and videos do you want? Do you have any specific poses or moments you want captured? Are there any special traditions, locations, or details that you want to be included?

At Twelve One & Co., we take the time to listen to our clients and get to know their style. Whether you’re looking for traditional posed shots, candid moments, or cinematic storytelling, we tailor our approach to your preferences. Sharing examples of wedding photos and videos that inspire you will also help us understand your vision and ensure we’re all on the same page.

2. Trust Your Photographer and Videographer’s Expertise

CAM16319 Videography and PhotographyWedding photographers and videographers are experts in capturing the most beautiful moments. They know what angles, lighting, and timing work best for creating stunning shots. On the day of the wedding, trust your photographer and videographer to direct you and your guests into the best positions to create flattering and dynamic photos and videos.

While you may have specific requests, it’s also important to allow your professionals the freedom to capture authentic moments. Sometimes the best shots are the ones you don’t expect. Allow your team to capture the emotion and essence of the day through their lens, trusting them to find those genuine, beautiful moments.

3. Be Open to Direction

CAM20375 websize Videography and PhotographyMany couples feel nervous in front of the camera, but remember that your photographer and videographer are there to guide you through the process. Be open to their direction when it comes to posing, where to look, or how to interact with your partner and guests. They’ll work with you to ensure you look natural and relaxed, even if you’re not used to being in front of the camera.

If you’re unsure how to pose, your photographer or videographer will guide you with specific instructions to help you feel at ease and ensure the best outcome for your wedding photos and video.

4. Schedule Time for Creative Shots

CAM17967 1 scaled Videography and PhotographyWhile you’ll want to make sure all the important moments are captured, don’t forget to schedule some time for creative shots. Whether it’s a first look, a couple’s portrait session, or a few minutes at sunset, these moments are key for creating stunning and timeless wedding photos and videos. Talk with your photographer and videographer about the best times of the day to take these creative shots, allowing plenty of time for them without feeling rushed.

For example, a sunset shoot can add a magical, romantic vibe to your wedding video and photos. If you want to make the most of golden hour, you’ll need to ensure your timeline allows for these creative moments.

5. Stay Relaxed and Enjoy the Moment

CAM20752 scaled Videography and PhotographyOne of the best pieces of advice for getting great shots is to stay relaxed and enjoy the moment. The more relaxed and natural you are, the more authentic and beautiful your photos and videos will be. Trust that your photographer and videographer are capturing your day in the best possible way, and don’t worry about getting everything “perfect.” Your wedding day is about celebrating love and joy, and that’s exactly what your photos and video should reflect.

Your photographer and videographer will do their best to create a stress-free and enjoyable experience. With a little bit of trust and cooperation, the result will be stunning wedding portraits and a film that tells the unique story of your big day.

6. Be Mindful of Your Guests

CAM20319 scaled Videography and PhotographyWhen it comes to group shots or moments with your guests, remember to give your photographer and videographer a little time to direct the group. This can help ensure everyone is in the right spot for the best shot and prevent any confusion or frustration. Clear communication with your guests about when and where to gather for photos will make the process smoother.

A well-organized group shot with family and friends will add to the richness of your wedding album and video, so take the time to make it happen without rushing.

CAM11109 Videography and Photography1. How to Prepare for Your Wedding Photography and Videography Session

Preparation is key to getting the best possible results from your wedding photography and videography session. Here are some tips to help you get ready:

  • Create a Wedding Day Timeline: A well-organized wedding day timeline will ensure that both photography and videography go smoothly. Discuss the schedule with your photographer and videographer to allocate time for both posed portraits and candid moments. This will also ensure you have enough time for any special shots or locations you want to include.

  • Scout the Venue: If possible, visit your wedding venue ahead of time to discuss photo locations with your photographer. Familiarizing yourself with the best spots for portraits and film will allow your photographer and videographer to plan ahead and take full advantage of natural light and the venue’s most picturesque areas.

  • Share a Shot List: If you have specific moments or family members you want captured, be sure to share a shot list with your photographer and videographer. Whether it’s a special pose, a group photo, or candid moments with loved ones, a shot list helps ensure no important moments are missed.

2. Top 5 Tips for Looking Your Best in Wedding Photos and Video

Looking your best in wedding photos and videos is easy with a little preparation. Here are five essential tips to help you shine:

  • Get Plenty of Rest Before the Big Day: A good night’s sleep the night before your wedding will help you look refreshed and radiant. Avoid stress and keep a calm mindset so you’re well-rested for your wedding photos and video shoot.

  • Practice Posing Before the Wedding: Spend some time in front of a mirror practicing natural, flattering poses for your wedding photos and video. If you’re unsure, ask your photographer for guidance — they are experts at helping couples look their best in every shot.

  • Use Professional Hair and Makeup Services: Hiring a professional hair and makeup artist will ensure you look your best for both photos and video. Professional styling not only helps you feel confident but ensures that your look holds up throughout the day, even under various lighting conditions.

  • Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water in the days leading up to your wedding to keep your skin glowing and hydrated. This will help you look your best in both photos and videos, avoiding any dry or tired appearance.

  • Wear Comfortable Shoes: If you’re not used to wearing heels, consider bringing a backup pair of comfortable shoes for your wedding day. You want to look great in your photos but also stay comfortable so you can move freely and confidently during your photo and video sessions.

3. How to Choose the Right Wedding Photography and Videography Style for You

The style of wedding photography and videography you choose will set the tone for your wedding memories. Here’s how to find a style that reflects your personality and vision for your big day:

  • Understand the Different Styles: Wedding photography and videography come in many styles, including traditional, photojournalistic, documentary, fine art, and cinematic. Discuss with your photographer and videographer the style that resonates with you the most. Whether you prefer a more posed, traditional approach or a more natural, candid style, the choice is yours.

  • Consider Your Wedding Theme: The style of your wedding photography and videography should match your overall wedding theme. For example, if you’re having a rustic barn wedding, a more natural, documentary-style shoot might suit the setting. If you’re having an elegant ballroom affair, a cinematic style with posed portraits could be more fitting.

  • Review Their Portfolio: Before deciding, take time to review your photographer and videographer’s portfolio to get an idea of their style and how it aligns with your preferences. Looking through real wedding galleries and films can help you envision how your wedding will be captured.

  • Find a Photographer and Videographer Who Connect with You: It’s important to choose a photographer and videographer who make you feel comfortable and at ease. A strong connection with your team ensures that you’ll feel relaxed in front of the camera, allowing for more natural, genuine moments to be captured.

1. Choosing Your Photographer & Videographer: Match Your Vision

  • Tip: Choose a photographer and videographer who align with your style—whether that’s timeless and traditional, candid and documentary-style, or a blend of both.
  • Why it matters: When you and your photographer/videographer share the same creative vision, you’re more likely to get those perfect shots, and you’ll both feel relaxed during the process. Click here to learn more about us.

2. Sample Shot Checklist: What to Plan Ahead

One of the most common regrets couples have is missing specific shots on their wedding day. Planning ahead and communicating exactly what you want is key. Here’s a sample checklist to get you started:

  • Getting Ready Shots:

    • Bride’s dress hanging (details)
    • Bride and groom’s shoes, rings, and accessories
    • First look with parent(s) or bridal party
    • Groom getting ready (candid moments)
  • The Ceremony:

    • Entrance of the bride and groom
    • Exchange of vows and rings
    • First kiss
    • Guests’ reactions
    • Any special rituals or traditions
    • Exit moment (confetti, bubbles, etc.)
  • Post-Ceremony:

    • Family portraits (with specific family members, don’t forget these!)
    • Bride and groom alone shots (first moments together)
    • Bridal party portraits (with specific combinations of friends/family)
  • Reception:

    • Grand entrance
    • First dance
    • Parent dances
    • Cake cutting
    • Toasts
    • Candid dancing shots
  • Creative & Candid Moments:

    • Fun group photos (think of poses you’d love to try)
    • Guest candid moments during dinner and dancing
    • Sunset or golden hour portraits (if timing permits)

Tip: Customize your checklist to include any special requests you have—such as a specific pose or a venue feature you’d like captured.

3. Wedding Day Timeline: Optimal Timing for Photos and Video

CAM20229 websize Videography and Photography

Setting the right timeline is key to ensuring everything runs smoothly and that you get the best shots. Here’s a sample timeline for various parts of the day and when they’re best for photos and video:

  • Pre-Ceremony:

    • Best time for: Getting ready shots and portraits of the bridal party and groom. You’ll also want time for your photographer and videographer to capture key details like rings, invitations, shoes, and the dress.
    • Tip: Allow at least 30-45 minutes before the ceremony for getting ready shots. Make sure to have your details (rings, shoes, etc.) prepped and ready.
  • First Look (Optional but Recommended):

    • Best time for: Your first look is perfect for capturing those intimate moments without the pressure of the ceremony. If you can, schedule this about 1-2 hours before the ceremony for the best lighting.
    • Tip: Schedule this in a quiet, shaded area to avoid harsh lighting or too much public attention.
  • Post-Ceremony:

    • Best time for: Family and bridal party portraits. This is a great time for you and your photographer to go through the shot list and tick off groupings and candid moments.
    • Tip: If you’re doing bridal portraits or couple shots, aim to do this right after the ceremony while the natural adrenaline and excitement are still high.
  • Golden Hour Portraits (If possible):

    • Best time for: Sunset or golden hour photos will give you warm, soft lighting that’s perfect for intimate portraits.
    • Tip: Check the timing for sunset based on your wedding date and location. Plan ahead for this 30-minute window to capture stunning shots.
  • Reception:

    • Best time for: Candid dancing shots, toasts, cake cutting, and other memorable moments. Keep the party atmosphere in mind.
    • Tip: If you want a good mix of candid and posed moments, make sure your photographer and videographer know when to step back and just capture moments naturally.

4. Scout Locations & Discuss Poses with Your Photographer

CAM17967 scaled Videography and Photography

Tip: Take time during your venue visit to talk with your photographer about potential shooting locations. Find areas with good lighting or that have special significance to you, like a favorite tree or spot that holds a memory.

Pose Ideas & Composition:

  • If you have a vision for a particular shot, let your photographer know in advance. This could include a particular pose or type of composition.
  • Don’t feel pressured to know all the poses, but if you have preferences (e.g., soft, candid moments vs. more formal, classic portraits), it helps to communicate them.

Tip: Your photographer will guide you, but if you want to incorporate creative ideas like unique angles or specific compositions (e.g., reflections in windows, dramatic lighting, or even a specific theme), sharing these ideas ahead of time can help.

CAM10030 websize Videography and Photography5. Post-Wedding: What to Expect from Your Photographer and Videographer

  • Editing Timeline: After your wedding, your photographer and videographer will begin editing your photos and wedding films. This process can take anywhere from 4 to 12 weeks, depending on the package.
  • Tip: Stay in touch with your photographer and videographer about your expectations for edits, such as preferred styles for the final wedding film or portrait album.

Our Story and Our Why

Twelve One is more than just a name to us; it’s a representation of our love and the meaningful milestones in our lives. It’s a name that’s deeply personal to us—and one that speaks to the love, commitment, and memories that have shaped our journey together.

It all began on December 1st (12/1)—the day we got engaged. That single date marked the start of our adventure together, one that would forever change our lives. The following year, December 1st became even more special when we got married on a beach in Mexico. But our story didn’t stop there.

On January 12th (1/12), our firstborn child entered the world, making the number “12” even more meaningful. These two dates—December 1st and January 12th—are forever linked in our hearts and have become the foundation of Twelve One & Co. Our business is built on these moments, and our name is a tribute to the love and milestones that continue to shape our lives.

Why Choose Twelve One & Co.?

When choosing a photographer or videographer, it’s important to find someone who doesn’t just capture the moment—but someone who understands the depth of the moments you’re celebrating. At Twelve One & Co., we’re not just photographers and videographers; we’re storytellers who care deeply about what you’re experiencing. We take the time to get to know you, your story, and what’s important to you so we can capture the essence of those moments in a way that’s authentic, meaningful, and truly unforgettable.

Whether you’re planning a wedding, a family session, or any other special moment in life, we’d be honored to help you preserve those memories. At Twelve One & Co., we don’t just take pictures or shoot videos—we create lasting art that reflects your love, your journey, and your story.

We’re excited to announce that we’re launching a complete rebrand! With a new name, fresh logo, and a beautifully redesigned website, we’re ready to share a new chapter of our journey with you. Clarifying Our Brand: From 121 & Co. to Twelve One & Co.

By News

Understanding Our Name: Twelve One & Co. – Not to Be Confused with 121 & Co. or 12:1 and Co.

CAM17630 websize Videography and PhotographyAt Twelve One & Co., we understand that there’s some confusion around our name, especially when it comes to online and voice searches. Whether you’re searching for Twelve One & Co. or speaking it into a voice search, platforms like Google sometimes misinterpret the name, showing us as 121 & Co., 121 and Co., 12:1 and Co., or even 12 1 and Co.. This can lead to confusion, so we want to take a moment to clarify our name and make sure you can easily find us online.

What Is Our Correct Name?

IMG 1085 Videography and PhotographyOur official name is Twelve One & Co.—spelled out with letters, no numbers. The “Twelve One” represents two important dates for us: 12/1, the date we got engaged and married, and 1/12, the birthdate of our firstborn child. These dates are a vital part of our story, and the name Twelve One & Co. reflects that personal significance.

How come when you use the voice search for our name it comes back as 121 & Co. or 121 and Co. or 12:1 and Co.?

While our correct name is Twelve One & Co., Google and other voice search platforms sometimes misunderstand the name, showing results for 121 & Co., 121 and Co., 12:1 and Co., or even 12 1 and Co.. This happens because voice search tends to read 12:1 as 121 or simply mixes up the colon as a number. Since many people search or voice-search 12:1 and Co., Google might default to showing results for 121 due to how it interprets symbols like colons.

The Importance of Our Name: Twelve One & Co. not 121 & Co.

To be clear, Twelve One & Co. is our brand’s official name, and we prefer to use all letters to represent the dates that are personally meaningful to us. The name is part of our journey and our story—something we want to preserve and share with each and every one of our clients. While Google may show us as 121 and Co. or 12:1 and Co. in certain searches, we are committed to maintaining the integrity of Twelve One & Co..
